"Before we go further, it's important to have a strong ideas as to what Lunars are. And what Lunars are, is not Solars. This is more important that it sounds at first, because Lunars were the Solar's consorts, viceroys, and ablest servants. They did those things that the Solar's couldn't, so knowing what that is gives us a good start. As it turns out, Solars are people persons. Dawns fight with and against armies of people, Zeniths lead and inspire nations of people, Twilights master and advance the knowledge of people, Nights discover and trade in the secrets of people, and Eclipses control and oversee the interactions of people. So what Lunars deal with are the things that are not of people, the things of the wild and untamed places not yet touched firmly by the hand of civilization.
They are the rugged survivors able to face the greatest dangers of the wild head on, the subtile masters of manipulating or adapting to all the challenges that nature posses, and the wise masters of the lore and knowledge not found in books or scrolls. In the First Age they were bridges and bulwarks bringing the power of the untamed lands outside civilization to the Solar's disposal and shielding against its greatest threats. Now, outcast and hunted by the civilization they once served, they have embraced the wilds. Often losing themselves in it if not becoming the greatest of the threats they once averted.
Lunars move along the fringes of civilization, no longer welcome, but unable to abandon it completely. In disgust, many turn against it, seeking to bring down what they see as a sick animal that has turned on them. Others seek only to ignore it, living lives as untouched by its influence as possible, far away or hidden in the shadow under its feet. They all find roles of importance where ever they go, for even if hated and feared Lunars are still Exalted. They are lone travelers on the road, brave explorers of the furthest reaches, keepers skilled with every animal, tricksters without compare, wise old hermits in remote cabins, and defenders of the people from monsters of the Wyld. They are the brave woodsman who saves the little girl from the Big Bad Wolf. Only sometimes they ARE the Big Bad Wolf. Deadly monsters in the night, fang grinned tormenters with lethal pranks, twisted parents to monsters, and gods made flesh that rally small tribes into vast barbarian armies which level nations. The children of Luna are as many faced as their parent, and as mutable."
